Business Objects
SAP BI was originally launched in 2006 as SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence, and initially had a relatively narrower profile that included SAP BW (Business Warehouse), Enterprise Portal (EP), Web Application Server (WAS), XI (eXchange Infrastructure), MDM (Master Data Management) and a set of end-user reporting tools such as Report Designer, BEx Query Designer, BEx Web Application Designer and BEx Analyzer.

After SAP acquired Business Objects for strategically positioning itself in the BI world, SAP BI today not just includes, but mainly gravitates towards SAP Crystal Reports, SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence (Webi), and SAP Dashboards (Xcelsius).

SAP Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence (Webi), and SAP Dashboards (Xcelsius) make up a powerful set of tools at the top of the SAP BI architectural stack, which actually delivers to the client much of the business intelligence that filters up through the industry’s best BI architecture provided by SAP.

BI CURRENT STAT ASSESSMENT AND CONTENT DESIGN

Every boot camp begins with a visit by the scout - the principal consultant who is a BI guru, and an expert in information technology diagnosis with focus on BI.

The first action of the scout is to conduct a BI current state assessment, which provides an architectural, installation, configuration and usage review of the production environment.

This review includes, but is not be limited to, the following:
Architecture / Installation / Configuration
- Review OS, software & Business Objects best practice configuration settings
- Review hardware, and disk space utilization
- Review software version, and service pack updates
- Review OS, software & Business Objects events & logs

Usage
- Review & document scheduled report load time distribution
- Review & document user load
- Review security configuration

The Current State Assessment provides:
- A document detailing current architecture, installation, and configuration of BusinessObjects.
- A list of recommended best practice changes broken out by impact and level of effort.

The scout also (a) assesses the BI maturity level of the client, (b) identifies BI implementation pain points, and (c) designs the rest of the boot camp, including configuring the delivery content and selecting the drill instructors who follow.

The general assessment is followed by topic specific assessments, the length of which depends on the number of topics selected for the boot camp.

Before the next phase of the boot camp commences, the scout returns to home base and orients the drill instructors who conduct the rest of the boot camp. Each instructor is provided with custom goals and deliverables to be accomplished within the product framework.
